Ableton Live on an SSD. Any issues?

There's a lot of talk about using and SSD (Solid State Drive) for your primary OS and other programes.

Has anyone fairly good experience of this and can highlight any issues you should tend to when instaling Live on an SSD.

I'm setting up a computer with an OCZ Vertex plus series 60gb for OS and Live, with a 500gb Seagate barracuda hard drive for some programes, projects and Samples.

It would be really helpful.

Live loads a lot speedier in general.

I'd recommend installing the library and saving Live sets on a different HD to keep the SDD drive as slim as possible. Sounds like you're planning on doing that anyways so you should be all set.

I have Live 8.2 running on my macbook air 11' and did not face any particular issue.

I had a feeling that this was maybe good idea, but you hav confirmed that it can be done, so will definately got this route, I should have added, that I intend to use Windows 7 to assure 'Trim' is being used and add further modifications of Windows such as paging, to ensure I'm not asking the SSD to perform lots of re writes unnecessarily.

I have an SSD system drive, but I keep my programs and libraries on spinning platter harddrives.

I'm not at all bothered about the speed live loads up at as that doesn't even count as a 'performance increase' to me. The only place where drive speed becomes a performance issue is when reading samples from a disk - because that's where it impacts musical flow, but putting the Live application onto an SSD will do nothing for that.

If your projects were on an SSD then you would see a useful performance increase, especially if you "collect all" and saved to that SSD. But loading up the application from SSD while keeping your libraries and projects on a platter? I can't see the benefit to that.

I have an SSD as my main for OS and Programs... I have a SATA 3 drive for all my personal libraries and sets. They work beautifully together, everything is super fast. My SSD is 64GB and I really wish I would have gone a bit bigger (I would go at least 80GB) But I do have some large programs on my system, all for music and graphic work.

I moved my Windows user 'libraries' such as the 'My documents' folder to another drive, as they were pointlessly taking up a lot of space on the SSD.

I have also now Live on SSD. The UI became much more snappier with heavy loaded projects. Although the SSD did not solve the worst (architectural) problems of Live.

The only thing I would be cautious about that there is rumors of BSOD problems with certain sand force controller based SSDs (e.g. OCZ), although other rumors say that they are past after the firmware become better.

I had BSOD problems with my corsair force3 when I got it. It was disconnecting about once a day and bringing the whole OS down ...as it's my boot drive with the OS on it!

I updated the firmware using corsair's updater application and it's been totally stable ever since.

I had BSOD once on intel SSD which resulted in reinstall of OS. Backup is must as well as for HDD.
