How to make this sort of sound

Post by JohnDoppler » Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:05 pm

I know i had a post before about how to make a similar sound in the same song but i just really like this sound a want to know it's made :o

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dmc8AhGskLs
00:00 - 00:32 01:54 - 02:07,
(You may have to listen closely)
there is snippets of where it is happening, but mainly it is happening throughout the entire song.

So there is the main sound but then whats happening to the sound is what i want to know, it has a human-ish quality, not like a vocoder or anything but its like the mouth shape is changing. I heard that the main sound is just stacked saw's though.

Thanks :o

Try overlapping notes with a glide or portamento set on your synth. This guy could be using a talkbox but I doubt it. Sounds like a square wave of some type. You're talking about the higher frequency part that sounds like a voice right? Because there is definitely a phaser on the pad underneath.

Oh and if you've got Omisphere or Sylenth start tweaking on their Theramin presets. I' sure other synths have a similar one, but those two I know do.

It can be done with a flanger/phaser with lots of feedback.

Oops, Theremin. Its an instrument that you play without actually touching it which the presets are modeled to to sound like, its got that wavering slipperly sound to it.

If you're looking for vocal-ish sounds, try working with the formant filter in Analog, or follow a tutorial to put together a formant filter using racks/EQ8

Try download IL's Harmless/Harmor. There are vibrato knobs. Tweak, got satified result, happy.
