Who here collaborates?

Post by alex1fly » Wed Apr 04, 2012 1:59 am

With other producers, that is. I assume many of us do, and I bet many of us have wondered this very thing: how in the heck can two producers work on a project at the same time??

Sure, one producer can work the DAW and the other can use his/her ears, or make adjustments on a mixer or midi controller, but can it go deeper?

For example, can I audition loops in Ableton while another producer slaps on various EQs and the like? Teamwork.

currently not possible... (unless you're in the same room of course)

currently it's only back and forth...
I use dropbox/soundcloud/google-talk...

there are/have been some ambitious projects :

http://www.cockos.com/ninjam/
http://www.ohmstudio.com/
http://ejamming.com/
http://www.ujam.com/start

...none of them are ideal.. but it's a start!

oddly enough... I though Ableton would go in that route with their 'share'...
you could have users connected.. to a session..
a user could be alerted about changes other users made on their computers..
and choose to import their changes to his set..
in realtime...
that would be ..futuristic...

I'm not sure I'd want a live collab feature. I mean if it was at the detriment of performance which in my head I imagine it being so.

I've always just used collect and save.nt works well enough. I don't know , I'd worry about performance sacrifices

This band ONLY collaborates using the net..... they use Live and Logic. Yet they are pioneering electronic producers.. they are a virtual band but the music doesn't sound like it..

I just wish that like, I could work on a beat while my partner fine tunes the EQ of the drum hits, simultaneously.

Seems like you could get a lot done by syncing two machines together...

however not every producer uses ableton live! There has to be a way to bridge that gap, with two creative minds in the same room being able to work on the project at the same time!

you don't need a 2nd computer.. simply a midi controller.. (or a REAL mixer..of course..)

wait a minute, you want someone else to tweak drums while you work on drums?
and you're not talking about a live performance you're just talking about writing music together?
why don't you wanna tweak the drums you're working on and let your friend play bass or some other sound or somethin?

One person is more creative. Another person is more technical. Everyone has a defined roll and contributes to a satisfactory end product. Seems like a good match for some folks.

realtime collaboration is not so easy.
it's like two painters with two brushes on one picture.
composing and arranging is like writing a one man show.

that doesn't concern playing. realtime recording over net would be cool.
