Effects are clipping? How do I stop that?

Post by gr00ver » Mon Apr 16, 2012 5:04 pm

I have mics hooked up to Ableton for my drums. I want to apply effects to the channels via Ableton and monitor while I play in real time. I have very low latency, but a friend of mine who is an audio wizard said he thinks my effects are clipping the audio. (The audio only clips once I apply effects)

I don't really know how to use Ableton so, be gentle. :)

I am using the effects in, Audio Effects / EQ Eight / Drums /, if that helps.

Audio Effects > Utility
You can put this tool in any part of your effects chain to bring the gain down. Because Live processes all audio with 32 bit floating point precision, you shouldn't have to worry too much about clipping except for when you push it to a third party plugin, or outputting after the master channel. It is good practice for your signal path to not clip, but in general with Live, it shouldn't likely affect you most of the time.
