Latency problems

Post by michaelblount » Sat Mar 19, 2005 9:27 am

Hell all

I'm trying to adjust the overall latency and have been reading how to do this on page 40 of the manuell my only problem is I can't understand what they mean about connect the audio cable to short-circuit lives out 1/2 to lives input 1/2. I am missing something here? I have an M Audio 2496 Soundcard , does this mean I connect a audio wire into the out/input on the card?

Anyone help me on this please.

Regards

First of all it is a good idea to check your sample rate/buffer size.
Second of all, it might be good idea to tralk with tech support at M-audio.
If they can't help you get things up to speed (and I have had very limited help from them myself) they might allow you to return it.

I don't blame the teks, the product they support is entirely inconsistant and problematic. I am begining to think that people that recommend m-audio products are veiled sadists.

The best of luck!

Allright, I realise that you won't get service till monday.
I strongly suggest trying ALL available drivers for your product.
Although I have a perfectly running G5, with osx.3.8, I can only run driver version osx.2.4.

Actually, this will take a shitload of time... Just make sure you have the latest available driver. If you arent getting the performance you want, try another.

Judgeing by your # of posts you might be new (I am, relatively) so I wont hesitate to suggest redjusting your sample rate, buffer size, etc in preferences.

Good luck!

Hi Michael. What they are attempting to have you do is connect the output of your soundcard directly back into the input of your soundcard. This will allow you to record what Live plays out of your soundcard back into your soundcard and into Live, so you can see exactly how long it takes the audio to travel this path. It is not necessary to hear any of this going on, so dont worry about not having any listening device hooked up. It is important that this connection is direct, avoid any external mixers, effects machines, or whatnot so you can get the best signal possible. Following the manual steps beyond that should take care of you.

LOFA: Did you even read his post? I am just kidding. You may have jumped the gun there with all the tech support stuff though...
He just wanted an explanation on one step in the latency adjustment procedure in the manual, he is not having problems with the hardware as far as I can tell.
