Saving your als files WITH all of your samples?

Post by Dhak » Sun May 06, 2012 4:22 am

So i've been putting together 7 tracks that I want to finalize and make into an album. The problem is that many of them are saved into different project files.

I want to start an entirely new project file and move these 7 tracks that one specific file. The purpose of this is also to back it up onto my flash drive just in case something happens. My flash drive only has so much space so I can't put my entire hard drive on it, I only want to put these 7 tracks (they are pretty much the only ones I care about anyway).

Now, once they are safe and saved I want to go through some of my older projects and get rid of stuff that doesn't need to be on my computer. I tried to do this once before and must have deleted some things I shouldn't have because when I re-opened some of my older tracks the samples were "offline". In other words, the samples were gone and the track was useless.

My question is how can I be sure to save EVERYTHING about a specific track including all of the audio samples I have spent hours working on? I'm pretty sure I know how but I want to be positive before I go deleting shit off of my computer. These 7 tracks are very important to me and I would hate for anything to happen.

Also, I like to play out alot of my samples by slicing them to a midi track. I am assuming that these sliced samples in the midi track will not show up in the "samples" file found in the actual project file. Are these good to go then? Do I need to do anything special to back these up?

Thanks a lot! I apologize if this is a question asked often I just don't want to mess anything up, this is stuff i've devoted alot of time to.

Yes, File - Collect All and Save. Keep in mind, that this only works for Ableton Clips and Devices, if you have audio samples in VSTs (e.g., Kontakt, Maschine, etc...), you have to manage those separately.

Cheers,
Brian
