Using max for live w/ Racks
Using max for live w/ Racks
Has anyone noticed that when you use an M4L device to modulate a macro knob on a rack and then you change your mapped setting in the rack, nothing changes?
For example, lets say I have a Max for live LFO modulating the macro knob 1 of a rack with an enclosed LP filter with the cutoff assigned to that knob (macro1). So the LFO is modulating the knob from 0-127 and the cutoff is mapped from 20hz-19khz or w/e it is. Lets say I hit the "map" button on the rack and change the parameters of macro one so the cutoff is only going from 20hz-500hz. You'd expect to hear a drastic difference right?? But nothing. It still modulates from 2-hz-19khz as if I didn't make the change. Then if I unmap the cutoff and reassign it, the effect takes change. Does that make any sense?

Re: Using max for live w/ Racks
Which LFO are you using, factory or 3rd party?
Re: Using max for live w/ Racks
Its not just the LFO. Its any device that maps to an ableton parameter.
You know how you can map enclosed device parameters to a rack macro. And then you can adjust those parameters. So say you map a dry/wet knob to macro one. The when you go to the "map" under the rack you can see its min and max values and adjust them.
what i'm saying is that when i have ANY m4l device mapped to that macro knob, adjusting those min/max values has no effect

Re: Using max for live w/ Racks
I can confirm that adjusting min/max is not immediately reflected by the knob in the rack which is mapped to the macro knob.
But anyway, the adjustment takes effect as soon as some signal arrives from the m4l device mapped to the macro knob.
This makes sense as the scaling is done dynamically (and can even be adjusted on the fly).

Re: Using max for live w/ Racks
What do you mean "when signal arrives at the m4l device"?
What I'm saying is that you can map parameters to a macro knob, change the mapping min/max settings and have them reflected immediately. But when I have a m4l device that is mapped to that macro knob the changes are not reflected. I have to either re-map the m4l device or all the parameter devices in the rack before I can hear the changes take effect.
Is this what you are experiences as well? When do the changes take effect in your situation?

Re: Using max for live w/ Racks
Read carefully.
I said "adjustment takes effect as soon as some signal arrives from the m4l device".
And this means in practice that unmap and reassign are not required.

Re: Using max for live w/ Racks
Yeah thanks. I know how to read.
Thats why it doesn't make sense. If I have an LFO running that signal is coming from it every second. And I'm less concerned with "theoretically" than I am with what is happening in practice.
So either be helpful or don't, but i'm pretty sick of this pretentious attitude from you computer literate types.
