controlling parameters with envelopes and midi controllers

hi guys I'm trying to sort out a controller scheme for my live set.
I would like to be able to control parameters like sends and effects with clip envelopes while also allowing this parameter to be controlled with the knobs on my oxygen 8.

I have found to control a parameter with clip envelopes I have to set the parameter to the highest value I want. then use the clip envelopes in each clip to automate from no effect to fulll effect.
unfortunately if I have a clip that has the effect at 0% by default then I can't use my midi knobs to control the parameter.

is there any way around this? or is it a limitation I have to work around?

midi control is 'absolute' .. "grabbing" the parameter

clip envelopes are 'relative' to the parameter position.. (like another layer on top of the parameter)
think of it as an synth lfo/envelope
that's the way it is..
