exported audio help

Post by Mismoplastico » Wed May 30, 2012 7:02 pm

i am having issues using my rendered audio productions in dj sets. once i have exported a finished track, loaded it back into ableton as an audio clip, and warped it, i find that the play back quality is greatly affected if i adjust the tempo of my overall live set. i use a number of analog synths in my studio set up, which i presume to be root of my problem. ex. if i render a basic 909 track made with one of ableton's 909 kits it will function perfectly as an exported file. however, if i record and render the same track from an actual 909 i will have this distorted play back issue. is the because of how i am warping the individual audio loops in my tracks? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Warping will always cause a loss of one form or another. If possible, set your set BMP during your track to the exact same BPM as your track, so that it doesn't have to warp. Otherwise if you're only causing a small change in tempo, The re-pitch warp setting usually works best. Another way you can sometimes eek out a bit more quality when warping is to use a higher sample rate. I often use 96KHz for the export on sets.

only if you don't know how to use it.

there are various warp modes with settings for each, learn them.

oh no shit? i warp my 303s in "tones" with a low grain size and my 909s in "beats" with a preserve of "1/4". i've tried rendering with the preserve set to "transients", but have the same problem. i slave the 303 to my 202 so that i can see the bpms its looping in. needless to say, i always play/record in the same tempo that my daw is set to.
