routing audio of a drum rack to other midi tracks

so i have one drum rack on one midi track with all my kicks, snares and hihats on.

is there a way for me to insert another blank midi track and route the midi information from the existing drum rack to this new blank track so by the end, i will have 3 midi tracks, one for the kick, one for the snare, and one for the hihats but all the hits will be found in one drumrack.

if you've used reason 4 before, what i'm basically asking is that is there a way to perform the add track feature under the instrument in live.

i mean say i have all of my drum samples loaded into one drum rack. i want to be able to record so that all the kicks are recorded onto one track, all the snares onto a separate track, and all the hihats onto another.

currently, the way i'm achieving this is by having 3 different drum racks, one drum rack for kicks, one drum rack for snares and one drum rack for percussion. there must be a more efficient way of doing what i want to do than the method that i'm currently using no?

Why are you wanting to split them up? I am asking because it may help to understand what your purpose is, and then I could offer better tips.

I use to use a blank drumRack and route midi to separate tracks, each of these tracks would contain a Sampler with my kicks or snares etc...
So the blank drumRack track could have 1 clip to trigger events, yet the audio from the samplers was on separate tracks.
However I found this to be a useless way to set things up once I completely understood how drumRacks work.

Another method (for production not performance) would be to make a return track for each drum sound. Route audio to these returns from the drumRack, route the return tracks to Audio Tracks for recording the audio for each sound individually.

Also you can nest drumRacks within drumRacks. This allows for more sends and routing flexibility within the rack itself.

I personally like keeping my drumRack as on entity. If I needed to bounce down audio of individual hits or something, I would just 'resample' that particular cell, mute all other cells.

Yes you can. Create 3 new audio tracks, For each audio track select the audio input to come from the drum rack and the chain you want - kick, snare, hats. Make sure you select "IN" on each track to be able to hear the input.

Of course, usually there is no need to do this as you can add all the effects you need after the simpler on each chain in your drum rack, so I am not sure what these extra tracks will achieve that cannot be achieved in the drum rack.

So THIS is precisely the response I had anticipated, and thats GOOD!

Why not host all of your effects in each cell? Kind of like this. As you can see each cell has a Sampler Rack, sort of a customized rack, plus and identical EQ rack, and outside of the main DrumRack and overall FX rack.

One simple way to do that is to drop an Instrument Rack inside a cell of a Drum Rack, then put four kick instruments into the Instrument Rack.

You can also layer samples with Sampler.

DrumRacks have I/O (input/output) routings, you can choose what incoming note triggers what cells.
ALSO, you can put another instance of drumRack into a drumRack cell, THEN if you put different instruments inside the nested drumRack select different input/notes on the nested rack, it will show you that visually in the hosting drumRacks cells.

In my pictures above I have done this for hats and the ones nameds SAMP 1 2 3 and 4.
the Hats and Samps cells are actually 1 nested drumRack but the input routings are for those incoming notes are set in this nested rack specifically. On the hosting rack the input routing is set to ALL. This allows me to trigger these sounds individually, but put fx on all of them minimizing my need for 4 different but identical FX racks.
For example, I want to EQ my closed hat just the same as my open hat.

I like using Sampler because you can load them up with tons of samples and scroll through them.
Nesting or 'Grouping to DrumRack' makes it possible to scroll through hats, on 4 different samplers where the 'key' chain is mapped to the same macro. So inside my nested drumRack for HATS there are 4 Samplers, one with Closed hats, one with open hats, one with half hats, one with pedal hats. Each sampler is mapped identically to the nested racks macros.
The nested rack gets processed by the FX for hats.

Another cool thing about doing this is the ability to map sends to macros in the nested rack.
It will give you the option to send the audio directly to the Returns bypassing the preceeding FX racks,
OR, to the hosting drumRacks sends (which are routed to the Returns) which will include the preceeding FX racks for that cell.

Puremagnetik sells a drumRack called "TrapKit" i think it cost 12 dollars. One of the best 12 bucks I spent.
Not only does it sound like a great multisampled acoustic kit,
it shows you how to make the most out of drumRacks.
