Just got a minimoog voyager RME a few days ago and I can't wait to get it going in Live, but I think I'm missing a step with hooking it up. RIght now I have a MIDI cable running from the MIDI out port of the synth into the MIDI in port of an M-audio midisport 2x2, which is connected to my computer via USB.
In live, I've got the midisport preferences set correctly (i think) so that Live is recognizing it.
The problem is, that when I create a new MIDI track with an external instrument plug, the voyager doesn't seem to provide any audio to the track, and in the "audio from" tab, using the default audio in won't recognize the voyager.
I guess to put it more simply, the controller keyboard and the midisport seem to be interacting correctly, but no audio is getting from the voyager to live. All the switches on the voyager are set correctly, and I'm getting sound from the headphone jack on the voyager itself, so the problem seems to be with my settings or I'm just so green at this I'm completely missing something obvious. Anyways, I'd really appreciate any tips people have on working with a voyager. This is my first time working with an analog synth.
Hooking up Minimoog Voyager with Live
Re: Hooking up Minimoog Voyager with Live
Hey, so you are writing about working midi connections, but what about your audio..? Audio out of your voyager is correctly connected to your audio interface with a working cable...? Audio Interface in Live's audio preferences is setup correctly...? In general...give all informations about your equipment...

Hi
I guess, you must be mixing up midi and audio. Your midi cable do not carry any audio. You should try the following set up
Midi :
- computer > midisport midi OUT > Moog midi IN (so that your computer can tell your synth what to play and when)
- Moog midi OUT > midisport midi IN > computer (so that you can use Moog Dial as a midi controler for example)
Audio :
- Moog audio OUT > audio interface > computer
Set up your "External Instrument" device with the right midi channel and audio in and you should be ready to rock.
cheers

Thanks for the replies,
I guess I just wanted to make sure that I had the MIDI set up correctly first before I started getting into audio. It looks like I somehow missed out on the whole audio interface thing. Would anyone have a recommendation for a good one that's not outrageously expensive?

I use a Focusrite Saffire 24 Firewire interface on my iMac, its rock solid and sounds quite good for the price. But from 10 people there are 15 opinions about interfaces...do a forum search maybe...
