Editing Vocals in Session View

Post by LutherBaker » Wed Aug 01, 2012 6:13 pm

I do most of my core writing in the Session view. I have a question about best or expected practice.

Assume I've recorded a basic musical section (several different musical clips- drums, a bassline, some keys and whatever else). Then, to come up with a melody for the verse and chorus, I might freestyle on a microphone. At this point, I have a clip, 16 or 32 bars long, of vocal mish-mash.

First question: let's say I like the "verse" lyrics from bars 4-8 ... and I like the chorus melody from bars 16-24. I currently copy the clip to another slot in the session view and then "CROP" the clip to the size I want ... is that what most folks do?

Next question: let's say I like a particular sound or short phrase - and I want to repeat it. Maybe it can stutter ... or maybe I just want to repeat it on the last 4 beats of a section. What is the best way to do that? Naively, I think I need to load the clip into an editor (Simpler or Sampler)? I tried Simpler and I know how to crop it -- but how do I copy sections of the sample back into itself? I'd like to crossfade and create other interesting effects directly in the editor.

Also, if I'm too do this type of editing in Simpler or Sampler, is there a way to make the waveform editing screen larger. I know I can resize the wav ... but the window seems tiny to do some real detailed stuff.
