MIDI Arpeggios from external keyboards

Post by Digable Dialogue » Sun Aug 26, 2012 6:35 pm

Is there anyway I can send arpeggio data from my Motif xs7 to Live so it will appear as MIDI notes? I use the Motif to record audio, I use it to trigger my Komplete sounds as MIDI data. However the Yamaha Motif has great, complex arpeggios that I'd like to edit in Live beyond an audio wave or the actual whole notes I trigger by playing the keyboard.

I'm thinking the only solution is to dual record a MIDI track with it's corresponding audio track simultaneously, but if anyone knows of a way to have the arpeggio performance appear on a MIDI track please give me some ideas.

I'm just trying to get some more complexity out of the arpeggios in Live more than just a synth 16th note repeater.

It depends on whether the motif can send midi out
Consult the motif manual

It totally can and it writes MIDI notes in Ableton perfectly. But The MIDI notes just reflect my performance on the Motif rather than what the arpeggio is doing to the notes I play.

I'd like to have those arpeggios translate to MIDI notes rather than just the keyboard playing, that way I can swap out alternate synth and piano lines while still having the arpeggio in tact.

Possible?
