Piano Chord/Progression Displayer for Mac?

Post by yeaokwali » Thu Oct 04, 2012 7:42 am

Let's say I come up with some chords and a progression and I'd like to know the key and the musical names of the chords played (Am7 Gsus2, etc...). As the starting chord isn't always the key apparently. Is there some software I could punch chords/progressions into, and it give me the key and name of said chords? As this would be great for actual/continued music theory/training. I'm breaking down lot's of my favorite songs in melodyne when I can grab the chords, and its interesting to study the actual theory behind it. You start to see patterns. Even my own stuff I'd like to know what progressions I'm coming up with or akin to.

I believe logic, and gootar pocket piano (tell you what chords your playing), but haven't found anything yet for telling you the key of your progression.

You can go here to learn about notes and scales: http://www.looknohands.com/chordhouse/piano/ as I forgot about this site....pretty handy IMHO.

there is also guitar related note/chord stuff to up a level or two.

Enjoy!

Also see my Music Theory tutorials. Work your way through the first two and you'll have the basics at least.

Music Theory 1 - Basics

Music theory 2 - improvisation

Music theory 3 - sound, pitch, harmonics & waveforms

Music theory 4 - circle of fifths, diatonics & modes

^^ I'm not that "newborn" lol.....I definitely understand how to write out both the common major, and minor scales. All Major chords (R-4-3), minors. 7th, etc....Have a basic knowledge of progressions (I-V-IV), I'm pretty intermediate as far as music theory goes, this is good stuff though. Apparently there's a pretty in depth series on music theory songwriting by groove3 that seems to be what I'm looking for as far as taking my music theory/knowledge to the next level.
