...of course, in that case it will be called "freezing".

...then you have to flatten to get audio
this would be refered to to as Freeze/Flatten
flatten seems to give a better cpu bump than just freezing...to be verified

i just find freeze/flatten a faster way to get midi>>audio...you dont have to rec, wait for it, possibly have to trim, etc...

when flattening, the audio you end up with is in 32 bit format whereas if you record from a track the recorded audio will be at the settings specified in the audio preferences.
usually higher bit rate audio files will put more strain on the cpu. just a related factoid.
