What happened to the opto setting for compressor in 9?
What happened to the the opto setting for compressor?
not there anymore? Is the glue suppose to replace that?
And what about the ff1, ff2 and fb settings?
all gone?
I like the new features for the compressor and the glue looks intesrting but why remove these features?
Opto and fb were my favorite settings for the compressor

Perhaps these are now hidden in a context menu. There has to be support for legacy sets, at least I would hope so.
Re: What happened to the opto setting for compressor in 9?
wouldn't the glue compressor just be it's own thing? it's an analog emulation. i don't think Live's standard compressor is being replaced, i think there's just another option built in now.

WTF??!
why did they remove those features? am I missing something?

Re: What happened to the opto setting for compressor in 9?
am I the only one that cares about this? the more I think about it, it makes me really mad. I can understand ableton's philosophy of wanting to simplify things, but why would they remove buttons that actually had an effect on the sound of the device and then add buttons that only change the look of the interface!? Maybe there's a way to emulate the old settings with the knee and look controls? I guess I'll read the manual.
edit: so I see that if I open an old set I get the new compressor interface but with the old buttons there and an option to "upgrade". And as a workaround you can open old presets and they will be running in legacy mode. weird that they don't just give us the option to run in legacy mode through the right click menu or something.

I just noticed that myself. They are gone! Along with the old presets like "1976" which was one of my favorites. Can someone from Ableton please explain how to achieve the old opto and FF sounds with the new compressor?
Re: What happened to the opto setting for compressor in 9?
if you import your old presets it will still be able to open them and it runs the compressor in a legacy mode and the old buttons appear.

Thanks, melocoton! I just read about that in the manual and was going to update this thread. You beat me to it! I also discovered that you can drag the "old style" compressor into the user presets area and have it available whenever you want it.

that's pretty cool right there.melodygenerator wrote:I also discovered that you can drag the "old style" compressor into the user presets area and have it available whenever you want it.
i get that it's kinda of confusing them changing things on us, but it's super cool to know that Live allows us to look back in simple way while still moving forward.

my old opto presets still seem to work in my old sets..
Re: What happened to the opto setting for compressor in 9?
yeah, they think of everything. it's kind of funny how they subtly force us to do things the new way while still making it possible to do things the old way so that we can't really complain.H20nly wrote:melodygenerator wrote:i get that it's kinda of confusing them changing things on us, but it's super cool to know that Live allows us to look back in simple way while still moving forward.
