Audio Interface help

Post by Zoosh » Sat Nov 24, 2012 2:41 pm

I'm looking for a USB/Firewire audio interface that could provide multiple I/O which are purely internal to the computer. I don't need lots external cables or patching here. What, if anything is out there which could offer me this?

Or should I just patch a 2nd Interface OUT to the first interfaces IN - would this create noise/quality loss/interference etc

Thx
Scott

For my money, the Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 is what I purchased. I don't think there are any internal sound cards that can carry this kind of I/O load. Personally, I like the fact that it's a standalone unit, knowing that it can travel between multiple computer upgrades/additions.

Anyway, it has two XLR/1/4" inputs on the front, so this is what I use for two guitars, or guitar and vocals. It's convenient to have these input types being either/or. I didn't know that dual XLR/1/4" inputs existed, but they do. And on the back its got six additional 1/4" inputs. So, 8 total inputs. Then, it also has the MIDI In and MIDI Out ports.

Overall, I love it and am extremely happy with it.

Now, on the flip side, sometimes when I'm working in Live, it does go on a crashing spree (like, 3 times in a 10 minute span), but I still have no idea if this is just Ableton or has anything to do with the drivers for the Scarlett. Overall though it really doesn't crash much, but I wanted to put that out there. But yeah, my Scarlett + Ableton setup is absolutely perfect for great sounding and quick guitars, bass or vocals recording for me.
