How to control a macro with MIDI notes from another track?

Is it possible to control macro values from another track by using MIDI notes? For instance, I have a macro that is mapped to a VSTi's cutoff filter. Could I automate the macro by drawing MIDI notes on another track so that a higher note would result in a higher macro value and a lower note in a lower value?
In other words, instead of mapping a physical MIDI keyboard note range to the macro, I would like to map another track's MIDI clip. Is this doable?
