SIMPLER or SAMPLER's Sample Start controller mapping

Post by tteo » Sun Apr 07, 2013 1:32 pm

Wonder what/if there is a work around to be able to map the sample start/ inside SIMPLER or SAMPLER to the MPD's knobs/faders ?

I was bummed when noticed it does not allow to map them :(

He's saying that's not possible unless you buy an additional product called Max for Live and hope that some uber geek has already hacked together a patch for Max for Live that may do what you want.

I think a much easier and sensible solution to get the type of hardware-based sampling workflow you're looking for is to have a look at Maschine:

Go to the MIDI TAB of Sampler. On the Mod Wheel line, select Sample Offset from the menu and adjust the modulation's amount. OK, it's not as flexible as the normal MIDI mapping of Live, but it's very easy to set up and don't require MaxForLive.

i've found a fun to have a this happen. albeit without mapping yet.
using the Device Randomizer in Live 9.

i've been loading up homemade sounds in simpler..then loading up a Device Randomizer.
fire in a midi sequence, map the simpler title bar to the randomizer and it works its magic.
you can control tempo/depth/and which parameters randomize....also, its pretty darn close
to 99% repeatable...

thanx for your answer, still on 8 now ... guess that randomizer is a new thing in Live 9 ?

yep, Device Randomizer is new in Live 9.
if you have m4l, perhaps a simple lfo device will do...

Strange that Sampler doesn't allow direct automation of sample start (offset). It can be done easily enough though using the Aux envelope in the modulation tab. Enable the envelope and set controls as shown below and assign a MIDI controller to Peak. 0.0% setting plays the sample from its assigned start point. Increasing the Peak % moves sample start point along the length of the sample.
