Alu Powerbook Audio Glitches in Big Set-> Solution

Post by drscissors » Wed Apr 27, 2005 3:45 pm

Hi --

...after 4 Days of heavy testing with 4 times reinstalling OS X etc., latency checks, 24 bit sample converting to 16bit, tuning OS X to energy max etc plus several phone calls to Ableton Support (thanx guys, you are great !!) and no change in audio glitches between different scenes here comes the solution:

i had to divide my Live-Set in to two pieces, i.e. i will have to load a second set after having played my 1st hour of my 2 hour Live PA.
In the original set w/about 2 GB of samples and 450 scenes w/numerous clips the activity monitor under OS X showed 600 MB of RAM plus 1,6 GB of virtual RAM. After splitting my set, both halves give a pair of 218MB/520 MB RAM/Virtual Memory and all scenes work with no audio glitches.

..the only thing left is the possibilty to upgrade my internal RAM for about 300 Euros..and i will have to find something in between my two halves...mayby i gonna tell a fairy tale over the mic ;)

cheers and peace and more RAM,

Dr.Scissors

......and another testing phase terminated....
well my status right now is:

i have to reload the whole programm with my second half !!!
...somehow the memory seems to be blocked by the system AFTER having played my first half...the audio glitches aappear again with the second half, no matter with which i am starting !!!!
...and i talked to a friend who is using a very large set with 1000 scenes, length about 3 hours with tons of samples and up tp 16 tracks simultanously.
His setup: PB 17" 1,5 GHz with ext.Drive, and here it comes: 2GB of RAM !!!!
i also tested my set on a 12" PB with 1,33 GhZ and 768 MB RAM....same Audio gltiches.
....as I said before....maybe the programming of Ableton is too nice to the OS (x)....

cheers and peace and on my way to upgrade my RAM;
