Big problem with Eq Eight

Post by YBC » Sat Apr 13, 2013 9:50 pm

Hi when i cut frequencies with the EQ Eight it seems that the db is actually increasing (and clipping). I don't know why

Here's the link of the pictue without Eq Eight: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bx8PtxW ... sp=sharing

Using such a steep filter cutoff can boost frequencies on certain sounds. Try reducing your Q amount, using a cutoff that's not so steep or reduce the global gain on the EQ.

I tried that, but if the db is still incresaing.
The thing is (with every equalisater of every plugin) when i cut/ reduce a frequency i hear a difference with my hear (like i hear that the bass are cut) but there in ableton ot says that the db has increased.

It's really frustrating, and i can't use any db (even from third party app)

I noticed that the two screenshots are taken at different times in the song, does that affect the levels of the song at that time? Or you're saying that it's pretty much the same case throughout the song, and the EQ8 really does increase the volume?

Anyway, yeah, I really don't know what could be going on.

Oversampling is bit turned on, and ut has nothing to do with the different moment of the track. :(
Im gonna post a video showing my problem

As Sibanger said minimum phase EQ boost/reduce the freq around it. Try to reduce the Q, or use linear phase EQ.

This has nothing to do with a problem in EQ8. Change the Q, as mentioned above, or experiment with other EQ's

i tried it with another eq plugin i still have the same problem, and same by changing the Q.
is there a setting that i have wrong (in the video)?

Which effects do you have on the master track?

This is a Q setting issue....Turn the Q completely down if you don't want any strange boosting.

this has happened to me before. I believe the hi pass (or the combination of hi/low or bandpass) makes the mid-high range piercing and acoustically louder. not having the low frequencies there makes the midrange frequencies more obvious, therefore leading to clipping.

if this mid-high grindy sound is what you're going for, throw a non destructive compressor on it (which is most compressors) adjust the threshold and output until you have a similar sound that is not clipping. or a limiter ...
I have six names.

Yeah it's a complex waveform issue, not going to be any different with any DAW or EQ.
If you look at the wave there's a peak or two in the high end that seems to get a bit squashed in the loop, (it's already compressed I would assume), but once the low end is gone it pops. You can subtly EQ it out, limit it, or just work with it. Pretty tiny peak, but it looks easily tamable.

Do you have audition mode on?

When you decrease gain in audition mode, you will hear those bands increase in volume. EQ8 is inverting the gain in audition mode (otherwise any gain reductions would tend towards complete silence in audition mode).

at this stage, with the strange peaks visible, i would observe with the spectrum plugin at the master channel

then i would solo each track, and check the master channel spectrum. if that does not pinpoint which track is the source, try combinations of tracks soloed together.

let us know if this helps
