Acid Pro controlled by Ableton

Newbie with Ableton here.(running windows 7 64 bit)

When I play both Ableton & Acid Pro at the same time, acid seems to been taken over by Albeton. I would like to have both programs open and independent of each other but in the Preferences/audio settings of Acid it keeps defaulting to an audio device driver called rewire. In Acid, whenever I set it to Asio (using the babyface)and hit apply it won't accept anything but the rewire Device driver.

I'm a total newbie here and have heard about rewire but I only want to run these programs independently of each other.

any help out there?
