Stupid question about upgrading

Post by Kenfold » Fri May 10, 2013 10:33 am

Hi guys,

Im brand new to ableton and i have just bought a novation launch key and a copy of live 9 standard.
im just downloading the 9.0.4 update but i just wanted to know if i need to delete the old version afterwards
or will 9.0.4 over rite it?.

Sorry if this is an obvious question.

Cheers in advance :o)

It should state somewhere in the manual but you can install versions alongside of each other as you like/have disk space, i.e. 9.0.1, 9.0.2, 9.0.4, 32 bit and 64 bit as well, just put them into separate install directories, the Library should point to the same Live 9 one though.

Personally for now I only have the 9.0.2 32 bit version, 8.4.1 64 bit, 8.3.4 32 bit and some older 8.x.x installs. I should move my projects to newer versions and uninstall the older ones once I clean things up.

If you install a version of Live 9 while you have an earlier version installed, it will tell you that you have an earlier version and ask you whether you want to replace it or install the new one in a different location.

Well, if you activate automatic updates it should just replace your current version with the latest. Much less hassle, and you don't waste disk space.
