Using Live As Your Band With LIve Instruments

does anyone out there use live (specifically drums and bass) as your band along with live instruments. we're trying to figure out how to do it without using a ton of tracks to make the bass or drums stand out. somewhat new to the game and still learning as we go. when we play a show ableton is competing with my (sometimes loud) guitar and a powerful vocalist. we're using live 8 intro because it works great and keeps us from getting too gadget happy. even though 9 standard looks mighty tasty......
