Basically I use both the launchpad and LPD8 for triggering effects, I have a few effects assigned to the LPD so I can use them while triggering samples on the launchpad(also for convenience ones that require knobs to operate).
However this seems to randomly cut out and I have no idea why. The encoders in the knobs work fine, and the pads light up and everything.
The only thing vaguely consistent is that if I quickly double click the pads assigned to "Momentary" they work. But that's no use for the ones that aren't.
Curiously, there are no problems using them for turning on and off channels which I've assigned to program 2. What am I doing wrong?

Judging by your description this may not be the specific problem but when I used pads to activate effects in the past they would (by default) need a velocity hit of over 64 to register, so you can deal with that with the min/max values of your MIDI mappings
