Wacom Bamboo tablet as MIDI controller

Post by woodswalker » Sat Jun 29, 2013 12:47 pm

There were some posts made on this in 2009 but nothing since then.
I just bought a Bamboo tablet for artwork & thought it would also work great as an XY touchpad. I plugged the USB cable into my hub with my MIDI instruments and tried to open Ableton. Alas, Ableton was not happy, and crashed bigtime. Well, that's what I expected! Ableton is the world's hugest Drama Queen when it comes to anything new plugged into it. Whatever happened to "Plug & Play"?

The Wacom pen, however, does work with my SMLKII controller's touchpad. Way better than a finger does.

I am told that to use the Wacom as MIDI, it would need software that can convert the Wacom's touch signals to MIDI. I downloaded something called MIDIStylus, haven't tried it yet. Pretty sure Ableton would still not be happy. Well I guess it can't hurt to try...

Can anyone add anything further about this?

Actually I found that the pen is just as difficult to use as the mouse...at least for the click, drag & drop functions. maybe it's just that I have been using a mouse for Umpteen years.
