help please Akai MPK mini mapping

Post by smojoguitars » Sun Jul 14, 2013 12:50 pm

Hi, hope someone can help please, pretty new to all this. Youtube and Akai not very helpful at all. Bought an Akai mpk mini and got demo version of Ableton Live 8 and if I can get to grips with it will buy it. I am struggling to get the pads to work to anything. If I open a midi track and drag a drum kit from Impulse, the keys will work but not the pads. I can see the midi messages flashing top right when I hit them though. Also when trying to assign the control pots to a function, I can't get them to work and there's no midi messages flashing. However and bizarrely, I can hit a pad and assign that to a pot (which is no what anyone wants). I have set the midi preferences to on for input and remote for the MPK. must be missing something basic. Any help much appreciated

On the left of the drum rack you have a a matrix of pads, hit your pads and notice where the hits occur in that grid. Theres a box around 16 'hits' somewhere, drag it to where your hits register, top 8 if I remember right.

OK I got that more or less sorted thanks. My pads show up near the bottom of the grids but the drum rack is way above. The only way I can drag them to where I want is to drag it as low as poss to a vacant position, then scroll down a bit and drag it a bit more and so on. There must be a way of enlarging the rack window so I can see all the grid but can't for the hell of me find how.

Also I still haven't figured how to get the pots working, they don't show up anywhere at present.
