What about using the Apple DLSMusicDevice plugin and selecting one of the saxes from the General MIDI soundset. Voices 65 - 68 are saxophones and very "cheesy"

It's not a synth, just sampling. It works fine!

Go to the Plug-ins folder in the Live browser and open the Apple collection. There should be one there called "DLSMusicDevice". Drag that to a MIDI track in Live.

Open the plug-in interface by clicking on the tool icon and under then menu "Soundbank" select "QuickTime Music Synthesiser". Record arm the track and play - you should hear the General MIDI piano sound with reverb. You can remove the reverb in the DLS device interface.

Now to select the sax sounds (65-68) you need to send the device a program change message. There are two ways to do this:

1: If you have a MIDI keyboard plugged in that sends program change info you should be able to use that to select the sound by dialling in the appropriate number

2: If you don't have a MIDI keyboard that will do that you will need to create a clip in the Live MIDI track and then double click on it. This will open the MIDI editor at the bottom of the Live window - now under the "Notes" section to the left there are three parameters for Program Change. Set Bank to 1; Sub to 1; Pgm to the number of the General MIDI sound you want... say 65. Now play the MIDI clip and it will switch the DSL device to that sound. Play the keyboard or program some MIDI notes and there you go ...cheesy sax! You can duplicate this clip in the MIDI track and enter different program change numbers in each so you can easily select different GM sounds just by launching different clips.

You can find a listing of all 128 General MIDI voices online.
