Ableton Push controller not working correctly
Ableton Push controller not working correctly
I just received my push controller and it won't work when I plug the USB cord into the push controller, supposedly it's automatically going to integrate because it's class compliant but I cannot get anything at all. Before I plug in the controller it's an beautiful light show but I didn't spend all this money for that!.
This is ridiculous and after this I cannot see myself continuing to be an Ableton user or supporter, can anyone help me please?. I'm using an Sweetwater 250 creation station pc with Ableton live nine suite. Also I think I should mention that after I plug in the Push controller it tells me to start up live but when I do the message remains unchanged as if I didn't start live. Also I noticed that the LED's seem to have some problem with color consistency like there's two sets of every color on the pads I don't want to give up Ableton because it's the only system out there that meets my creative needs.

Re: Ableton Push controller not working correctly
when that has happened to me i rebooted the computer and the push and then it works.
also i have had issues with using longer 12'+ USB cables.
so i make sure to use the stock or one of my better 6' and under cables.

Re: Ableton Push controller not working correctly
That failed to work as well bosonHavoc. I failed to mention that I am also using the Akai APC40 controller as well, would this somehow influence the function of the push controller?. I also searched for the push controller in Live's Preferences-midi sync and could not locate it there as well, it'll show in the control surfaces but not in the I/O's. I initially used an 6.5 USB cable but have since switched back to the stock cable. I have designed and built my entire project studio around the Ableton live 9 suite and the Push controller, any advice will be appreciated and needed.
Re: Ableton Push controller not working correctly
The first thing I would do is to make sure that Push is the only controller in your controller list. Unplug the APC and reboot everything and see if that helps. I would then get directly in touch with Ableton. I'm sure they can help.

Please get in touch with tech support about this - http://ableton.com/support/contact
Re: Ableton Push controller not working correctly
Thank you all for your assistance. I've tried every suggestion you've offered and still nothing, I even called tech support at Sweetwater to find if whether the problem was in the computer?, but it was discovered that the problem must be in the software and or the hardware. So I Finally broke down and sent an tech support request to Ableton to fix this problem. I will definitely post the solution in this forum.

Thanks for contacting support - someone will get back to you as soon as possible. One quick note for others here - if you have a similar problem, please also get in touch with support. Due to the individual nature (and numerous variables) in each setup, it's possible that your issue isn't the same as another user's.stalk wrote:I will definitely post the solution in this forum.

Same problem here, waited 4 months for this and it can't find firmware and seems unable (via Live 9) to search the web and get some.
Support just emailed back 'We're a bit busy at the moment, we'll get in touch in the next few days!?!?! ..when I'll be at work and unable to do anything about it!
Why no UK helpline????????

Gutted, after hours of hair tearing it turns out Push is fine and it's a dodgy USB hub I bought from Maplins today that caused all the trouble..

Hello everyone!, I finally got my Push Controller working by accident!. I went into device manager and it was there listed in the USB ports so I clicked on it opening it's properties list and it asked me to install software, but I knew there wasn't any software and clicked on it anyway, the next thing I knew the push controller activated!.
The pads are messed up with the various hues as everyone is rightly complaining about but right now I'm seriously overjoyed that it's finally working and I can get on with making music. I designed & built my entire project studio around Ableton's Tech. It's costed me several thousand dollars and not to have the brain working left me in despair but I'm happy now and I hope this helps someone else out. Please excuse my rambling!.
Push controller working now!.
I was thinking that I wasn't clear enough in describing the path I used to get my Push controller working. I copied the MIDI remote script from this location-C:\Program Data\Ableton Live 9\Resources\MIDI remote script- to the C drive and then I went to the device manager and opened the properties menu, I found the option to install the software for the Push controller and after an moment the Push controller became alive for the first time!. It had sat on my studio workstation as an $600 LED Paperweight for an week and a half prior to this discovery. I'm not too computer savvy but I really hope this helps anyone experiencing this same problem and big thank you's to the ones who replied trying to help me out of this situation.

Re: Ableton Push controller not working correctly
This may not be relevant as it's a problem I had with an Ultranova on Win8/64, and that's a USB 1.1 device, but: after much head-scratching turned out the UN only likes USB root hub and may not like one other devices are already configured for.
So the message is: if on Windows 8 machine make sure you're running on root hub on a port that nothing else is using, just as a way to try to isolate the problem.
This is a known issue in Win8.
