I'm open to other computers as well. What do you have, and what works flawlessly with ableton?

i've had the same macbook pro for about 5/6 years. never crashes (well ableton used to occasionally, overall it is pretty stable). the most important part here is that i have not needed to replace it and still do not have a need to replace it. so in the long run your macbook pro will last the equivalent of 2 windows machines (from my experience anyway). The fact you can add windows via bootcamp should also really seal the deal. if you can afford the macbook pro, def do it. you will not regret it.

So the 5200 rpm harddrive is fine in the Mbp???
Honestly I rarely ever use a Mac other than my girlfriends which I never have used for audio.

Well you know what they say: opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

Mac is purely my preference. No one has to agree w/ me but after I switched back in 2006 or so, I was shocked at what I'd been missing. Idk how I put up with Windows for so long. Windows seems like a hacked together pile of garbage compared to osx. I do all my audio work on a MacBook Pro. I wouldn't even trust a Windows machine to handle and save all my audio tasks.

Idk. When I am forced to use windows like at work or when I'm fixing someone's pc, it's always aggravating.

I had a similar decision to make a year ago and ended up to Thinkpad (although cheaper model, Edge E530), I am very happy and spared a lot of money.

the downsides of mac are
- price, everything costs much more, e.g. new battery, power source, extended warranty, etc..
- there is only 2 USB ports, a huge annoyance
- there is no HDMI or VGA port, Thinkpad Edge has both of them. Mith Mac you have to play with adapters and they are expensive too. (although T430 you also have to play with adapters as it has mini displayport).

If you want OSX then there is only one logical choice, Macbook Pro

e.g. Macbook Pro 13 costs 1200eur, you get Thinkpad Edge E330 for 780eur with more or less the same processor.

I totally forgot Mbps have only two USB ports, and I didn't even realize there isn't a hdmi port. I always use a different screen when working, and I run 7 different USB devices right now so that's an issue.

So the edge series is a good buy? I'll have to take a look at those now.

t430 = plastic and fat
MBP = aluminium and thin
macbook thunderbolt adapters aren't expensive really and you do get hdmi on the retina model ... the only real issue on them is the fact that they are non upgradeable after market
macbook pro 2.5 i5 os 10.12 , TC Electronik Konnekt 48, Live 9, Cubase 9, event 20/20, Waldorf Blofeld, roland tb-03, roland Jx-03, korg mikrokontrol, novation nocturn, akai lpd8
