Kick sample in audio sounds much worse than the preview.

Post by infinitesinewave » Mon Jul 29, 2013 2:26 am

I have Ableton 9 suite. I found a kick sample "00db_kick2.aif" within the "samples" folder. It sounds great in the "preview" when I click on it. However, after I drop it into the audio track everything changes. The sample sounds dead and muffled. I tried unwarping it, transposing it, "complex proing it", changing the tempo of the project, and raising the volume of the track. Still, the quality of the sample is not nearly as good as the preview. What am I missing? Why are they not exact? How do I get that kick sample to sound the same as the preview?

Fades.

In preferences turn off fades on samples.

For this sample, bring it into Arrangement, go to the fades automation settings and fix it.
