Making a foray into house
Making a foray into house
hi all,
I do a lot of ambient production, which tends to be a couple of pads and some minor FX.. nothing too too complicated.
I've always loved deadmau5 and that progressive house sound.
How should I go about making prog house and what elements do I need? I'm so used to just one or two pads and some added FX (field recordings).
Something along the lines of this song is what I am looking to produce; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOjeySgI ... E7E346970B
I can't wait to hear your guys' feedback and help! Is there some literature I should get on this? some tutorials you guys recommend? anything will help!
cheers!

Re: Making a foray into house
kick on 1,2,3,4 beats
snare on 2, 4
closed or open hi hat on offbeat 8th notes
add arpeggio
adjust cutoff and release on arpeggio every 32 bars
add bass notes on offbeat 8th notes
filter white noise in and out every 16 bars
and voila: Prog house.

I tried doing the above. It sounded very boring. Could there be more to it than this?timothyallan wrote:kick on 1,2,3,4 beats

seriously though, music doesn't have to be complicated to be good. start with Tim's formula, get a skeleton down and follow your muses.
maybe you don't actually want to make house music. I started out with a guitar then years later found DAWs, naturally I spent hundreds of sessions mucking about with synths. well, no I'm a guitar player that likes guitar music, so that's what I should make.
