set Session Record to be constantly ON

Post by yellotron » Thu Aug 08, 2013 3:35 pm

I have been performing with Live for years, from Live 6 up to 9. With Live 9's Session Record button, I have been thrown off. I need to be able to have pre-cut midi clips that await me playing into them. As it is, the Session Record button shuts off as soon as I dis-Arm a track. I need to be able (in session view) to ARM a midi track and play into a preloaded midi clip without having to click the Session Record button every time.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if I could just persuade the Session Record button to stay on all the time, I think everything would be fine. But as it is, it switches off as soon as I dis-ARM a midi track -- any midi track.

Currently (Live 9.0.5) there seems to be no way to record into midi tracks without clicking on the Session Record button every time I want to record (in addition to ARMing the track that contains the midi clip). This makes clip recording a two-step (two keystroke) process, which doubles my workflow compared to Live 8 and below. I therefore use up twice as many key mappings and controller mappings for midi record actions. And in some circumstances, it's not even practical to send the double command. At any rate, it always seem like it shouldn't be necessary, but apparently in LIVE 9 it is.
