I am confused by the delete button on my push when using the step sequencer. Does it just delete the clip?
I was hoping it would work like this:
When recording a looping clip with a drum machine or instrument, a pad's notes that the sequencer is sweeping past are deleted when the delete key and a that pad are held down simultaneously. Holding down say, a kick, with the delete button while the clip was recording would eliminate all the kicks after the sequencer looped to where you started holding them down. Or you could leave the kick on the one, hold down delete and the kick pad, and delete the rest of the kicks in the clip. If there is a way to do this as the push is currently designed, I haven't figured out how to do it.
This would enable you to edit notes more intuitively and granularly without going back to the computer, which is the whole point. If a note was between what the step sequencer shows, you could eliminate those notes quickly, while keeping ones it did show. It is easier to hit and release one pad at high tempos rather than try and stab at a bunch of pads in the sequencer.
This would also allow you double a measure, erase the last snares and record a snare fill quickly and intuitively as another example. It would allow you to delete the kick and snare and leave the hihat and record new kick and snare beats. With an instrument, you could leave the root notes and delete the thirds and come up with a new phrase. Being able to subtract is just as important as being able to add.
If the delete key is not appropriate for this, the shift key could be used to implement this design.
