Ableton looper or looper pedal?
Ableton looper or looper pedal?
I watched couple videos of people demoing the ableton looper and it looks great. I have the boomerang iii completely brand new and I'm having a hard time whether I should keep it or not. The reason why is because I don't know the full potential of either loopers. Is the ableton software looper capable of doing everything the boomerang iii can do and more?
I don't do any live performances so that is one reason towards returning the boomerang iii but I really want to make sure I'm making the right decision.
I thinking about keeping it because it could be a great combo with ableton but then again would it be unnecessary.

The main question is : do you have to sync it with ableton stuff ?
MacBook Pro 13" Retina i7 2.8 GHz OS 10.13, L10.0.1, M4L.
MacStudio M1Max 32Go OS 12.3.1

By sync if you mean connect the boomerang to your computer and select it as a driver then not at all. It connects directly to your audio interface, amp, speaker, whatever you want. Don't have to install any drivers on your computer.
If that is not what you meant then please forgive me, i'm new to all of this.

Sorry if i was unclear. Do you plan to use Live only for looping or are you using synths, drums, etc. within Live as well ?

Yes I am planning on experimenting with the synths and drums. What I'm planning on using the most are the virtual instruments with a midi keyboard or electric guitar. I would like to be able to loop all these things as well.
This person doesn't use any virtual instruments but he does the type of looping I would like to do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35Xx0aRJfPw

I have worked with both hardware loopers and the looper device in Live. For me it comes down to the latency of the sound card. If you have a good low latency sound card, then go for everything in Live. If there is latency in the line from your guitar to ableton to the speakers (that you can't fix no matter what you tweak) then stick with the boomerang.
I do all my looping with Abletons looper, but I keep my boss rc-50 around for a rainy day. Specialized hardware for any musical purpose has a place in my heart and my studio.
