Hard Drive Speed

I'm debating whether to opt for a 256GB Internal Flash Drive for IMAc rather than a 1TB 7200RPM, and use an external Harddrive for all of my sounds.
Does the speed of the External drive have any impact on performance?

If you use audio on the harddrive or flash the speed matters. When you get that D symbol flash it means harddrive, and it means you didn't get the file fast enough.

Harddrive speed does matter, and 7200RPM works well for me.
