Using a older MIDI keyboard or buying a newer MIDI keyboard?

I was thinking of getting a new MIDI keyboard but I thought the one I have now has A MIDI out and could be used to sequence with ableton.

I do not own a MIDI interface but my BCR2000 has A MIDI in and connects via USB to my computer and thought I could use the keyboard to connect to the BCR2000 and transfer MIDI data through to ableton and use a plugin to map it to.

The manual says it has a MIDI out setting which can be selected to off, all or note. It doesnt say anything about velocity or anything else in the manual and I am guessing this is something I need.

I have not purchased a newer MIDI keyboard and I was wondering if the old thing I have now is going to work if at all and whether it is worth getting a new MIDI keyboard? eg. Novation sl mk2.

I would definitly try using the old keyboard before buying a new one. Unless its a very old keyboard it probably has velocity on it. Just buy a midi cable plug it in, comfigure it properly, then play with for a while. Should get the job done for you. Will save some $$ and while most likely do the job just fine. You might want to invest in a new one if you want acccess to some knobs and faders to input midi with as well though.

BCR to old keyboard is exactly what I do, no problems.

I had the MIDI keyboard connected to the BCR2000 and the BCR MIDI in light flashes when I press the keys on the keyboard. I have the BCR connected to the PC via USB and the BCR shows up in MIDI in and out in ableton but the keyboard does not. Im not sure if its meant to or I just use a plugin and map the keyboard to the plugin?

I used the imposcar and CVpiano plugin to try and get the MIDI to work but I can not get a response. Could you suggest a plugin that may be able to do this?

it has nothing to do with plug-ins. dragonbreath isn't making any sense on that one.

set remote and track accordingly. open the help box in the lower right of Live's GUI and hover the mouse over those options to learn what they do.

I tried to select the track and remote buttons and ableton recognises the BCR and I can control imposcar no problems and play notes etc with the BCR.

The keyboard is dead.

I tried changing the settings on the keyboard and selecting the track remote buttons but ableton does not recognise any MIDI information being sent. The indicators and sound is dead.
