Faith is as faith does

Dozens of gatherings dubbed "atheist mega-churches" by supporters and detractors are springing up around the U.S. after finding success in Great Britain earlier this year. The movement fueled by social media and spearheaded by two prominent British comedians is no joke.
People will always need faith, just as they need oxygen to breathe and young, hot women to bang. Jesus asked that we put this faith in the Lord; Marx, in one world government, and now atheists... apparently nothing. For faith is nothing is still faith.

This place is my church. I don’t always agree with some of the parishioners but that’s ok.

I want to take back some of that harsh moniker "jesus freak". Yes I don't have much patience for faith based reasoning (Because such a thing does not exist!), but I was not even challenged and I let that out...sorry.
I actually do hope for the day were all the monotheistic religions will just disappear (yeah right...). Because their cover story is just sooo transparent and so easy to discount!
But I also think that there is something in us that drives us towards the "higher spirits". It may just be fear of death, but that does not really discount its reality.
I actually have a lot of respect for Buddhist philosophy and wouldn't be too surprised if science and Buddhist thought and spiritual practice would merge some very far away day in the future...

That was friggin' ridiculous.
So what! Anti-racicts are going to reenact klan rallies?
We need less faith. Faith is a euphemism for hope, which is an easy way to say one intends to sit on their ass and not lift a damned finger---they'll let faith do the lifting.
You need to change your thread title to Faith sucks <insert gay-sex-term>!

interestingly enough... being a good Buddhist actually puts you in line to be a good <insert religion of choice here>. if anything, it's an enhancement.TomViolenz wrote:I actually have a lot of respect for Buddhist philosophy and wouldn't be too surprised if science and Buddhist thought and spiritual practice would merge some very far away day in the future...
religion is a road map. as humans tend to, they get caught up in the messenger and sidestep the message (idolatry ffs). GO TEAM! ...or... YOUR TEAM SUX!

The closest I came to opening my mind's eye was after a bag of self-picked NW blue-ringers. I'll tell you what. The calmness of Buddhism is not meant as a reflection of the world out there; That calmness is meant as a defense against the violence of the world. I don't believe we can change the world,we can only change how we react to the world. Thus far, I succumb to it's chaos. I'd like to be able to approach the world 'buddha-like', but I would like for it to be genuine, not something that could be gratuituously said or doneH20nly wrote:interestingly enough... being a good Buddhist actually puts you in line to be a good <insert religion of choice here>. if anything, it's an enhancement.TomViolenz wrote:I actually have a lot of respect for Buddhist philosophy and wouldn't be too surprised if science and Buddhist thought and spiritual practice would merge some very far away day in the future...

^ agreed.
Mmmm blue ringers... i used to self pick too. i grew up in south Texas... the humidity and abundance of cows made that type of spiritual journey easy to come by... after it rained, that is.

Re: Faith is as faith does
There is a very interesting movie (the name slips my memory) where a guy supposedly doesn't die. And he didn't since humanity began. He has kind of a rough life, because every 10 years he has to leave everyone he knows/loves, so it doesn't get too obvious he doesn't age. Anyways in this story they imply that he was Jesus by accident (he really didn't mean to be) and that he became him because he was talking about things to the people in Rome that he had heard Buddha teach when he was in India 500 years earlier... It was an interesting take on things.H20nly wrote:interestingly enough... being a good Buddhist actually puts you in line to be a good <insert religion of choice here>. if anything, it's an enhancement.TomViolenz wrote:I actually have a lot of respect for Buddhist philosophy and wouldn't be too surprised if science and Buddhist thought and spiritual practice would merge some very far away day in the future...

I don't say this to chest-thump, but I've done my fair share of both. I can honestly say I would never do either again. I think they're helpful for dense and rigid people to break down the barriers, but they're definitely not to be for prolonged use.TomViolenz wrote:As nice as shrooms are for this, they have NOTHING on real acid!H20nly wrote:^ agreed.

Sorry, Galt with tears of Salt,
We've derailed your thread into a drum-circle-jerk.
