I want to play chords with Massive, Drum Rack + MIDI Pads

Post by shalomattheworkplace » Fri Nov 15, 2013 3:00 am

Hey everyone. I'd like to figure out a way to use the pads on my controller to play chords with Massive. I don't want to just load samples of chords I would like to be able to modulate the synth while being able to press a pad. Right now I have the chords MIDI learned to 4 pads through the session viewer but would like to find another way. I have the latest version of Ableton 7.

Thanks.

I'd make a Massive chord rack first. Not drum rack, but instrument and midi rack. And set the key range of each chord in the device change to one note. Make a MIDI rack first with each Chord device only, have Massive outside of the rack, then rack both the chord rack and Massive together. After that i'd map macros of the rack to the parameters of Massive you want to use.

After you've made that rack, if you need to have it in a drum rack you can drag it in, and then find out the way to set a chain to 'receive all notes' in the drum rack. Then the chords would come through on the notes you chose for them when you made the MIDI rack. And you can still add samples to the other drum rack slots.

Confusing, so it might take a while to get it all to work out. And some ideas might spark better ideas and get you closer to what you want.

Sweet I got it working. I made 7 chord FX, Cmaj, Dmin up to Bdim, each on their own device chain in the MIDI rack and set them to each of the pads I am going to use for chords. Then I set each chord to the single root note in the "key" section of the chain editor. If one pad is pressed down and another is pressed it seems to be only playing the root note.

But ya that's dope thanks a lot. If anyone else has any other methods please share
