hi there
recently my production laptop broke, so i'm about to install a new setup. i have win 7or8 to choose for the os, so my question: which one should i choose? does win8 have performance advantages over win7?if not i'm going with win7, don't like the new win8 look.
did some searching in different forums, but didn't get definitve answers, some people had big probs with win8, for others it worked fine.
thanks for your insights

Re: win7 or win8 for production system?
Install Start8 into Win 8 and it will look and work like Win 7. Start8 costs about £3 from Stardock.
Win 8.1 update came out two weeks ago. This update adds DX11.2 graphics and 3D printing.
Win 8 boots on multiple cores where Win 7 only boots on one CPU core.
Think that's about it performance wise.
Win 8 comes with a really good anti spyware and antivirus uses up about 3Mb and was given perfect reviews by magazines and websites. I haven't had one problem with windows defender in two years.
Win 8 has no DVD codec.
I use over 20 third party plugins with Live 9 64bit and they all work and ilok 2 works with Win 8
Conclusion.
If you install Win 8 and Start8 there are no downsides apart from no DVD codec but you do get to reboot faster to a login screen. Never worked out how to bypass that.
