To be able to arrange even faster with Live you guys should definitely implement a brush tool, e.g. like seen in acid 1.0/2.0. I didn't really use this app back in the mid/late 90s since i immediately switched to Logic back then.
But anyway, i saw this tool being used by my friends and i must admit that this kind of tool is the fastest way i've ever seen getting an arrangement done.
Left-Klick to "brush" (segments of) your sample/midi onto the track and Right-Klick to delete segments of it (with "snap-to-grid" function while brushing/deleting).
Just my 2 cents...

Agreed Ableton would benefit with a brush tool, slice tool, eraser tool, etc.
