TRASH THE SPACEBAR CONTROL
TRASH THE SPACEBAR CONTROL
Maybe it's just me but I hate the fact that if you press the space bar it stops the music and when you press it again to restart the music it always starts over from the beginning. If they could just let you change this feature or be able to disable it, would be great. Ofcourse maybe I just don't know what I am doing??? Any one know of any way to disable the space bar control?
Do a search, someone from these forums created a sweel little app that lets you turn the spacebar on or of for just this purpose. It was posted here only a couple weeks ago.

shift + spacebar
if you press shift+spacebar after stopping LIVE continues playing where you stopped...
michael
This is my first post and for the record i love Ableton live and it's revolutionised all aspects of my music from the studio to gigging!
however i have a gripe with Live which has been there since version 1!
I find that in a hot, dark and sweaty club environment the last thing you want is the live set to stop. EVER.
Like many artists i have a bare bones arrangement in the arrange page which forms the main timeline of my set. The problem I have is that I dont want any possibility of accidentally hitting the space bar or stopping that timeline in any way.
Optical mice and trackpads have a habit of playing up under such conditions (particularly if the conditions are very humid) and it is all too easy to misclick when adjusting or selecting onscreen controls. This is why it made sense to me that they incorporated a SHIFT-Click in order to change the play locator in the arrange view 2 versions ago.
Now in live 5 there seems to be a minefield of such areas onscreen that if you touch will alter the playback position of your set.
eg Clips when touched can retrigger the arrangement from the begginning of that clip
this is so performance unfriendly, I can't tell you.
I recently had a last minute gig where I've turned up and had very little space and no midi controller and so decided to fire clips using the laptop keyboard. With the spacebar being the biggest key and right in front, the chances of accidentally brushing/hitting it during an energetic live set in a dark club is a very real and embarrasing reality, leaving you with seconds of silence while you switch to the arrange view to try and find a point at which to restart the set!!!
The new assignable locators in the arrange view will be most welcome but Surely other users have been frustrated by this problem during a live performance.
I have read other threads where users have complained about the spacebar stopping the set and resetting the locators to the begginning. The new assignable locators in the arrange view will be most welcome but surely other users have been frustrated by this problem during a live performance and would welcome a "disable" feature for the spacebar and onscreen controls that alter the playback of the arrange timeline.
This is my biggest wish for the next update. i long for the end of embarrassing mistakes on stage which leave me guessing as to what part of the arrangement the music stopped at in order for me to restart it again!
i guess you could level criticism at me for not being more careful what i'm pressing and selecting during a performance, but it's not good to look like a data entry clerk carefully using a pc when you're in a techno club at 5am haha!
Had no idea this post would be so long, sorry!
Anyone else come up against a similar problem or think that the current system isn't fool proof anough for idiots like me?

it would be great to have a button that was A "live mode" button that dissabled the "land mines". It would be good even to have a customizable list of features that could be turned on and off with the click of a button for "proformance mode" or sumpthing like that.
ABIT NF7+AMDXP@2500, RME Multiface, TC Powercore Element+Virus, UAD-1, Nord Lead2, Reason2.5, impOSCar, Microtonic, Reaktor5 and some other stuff...
Mr. yellow made a tiny pc app. called "blockspace"--run it while using live and the spacebar is disabled. Granted, it wouldn't hurt for Ableton to give us this option inside of Live, or even the "live" mode someone mentioned to avoid other "landmines", but at least the spacebar issue can currently be tamed. I've gigged dozens of times with blockspace up the whole time--takes up very little ram and is totally solid and reliable. I think there is something similar someone hooked up for macs.
