I know I know... This has been posted years ago, but I am still having trouble with it.
Is there anybody out there that can give me step by step instructions on setting up my TR 909 to receive MIDI through Ableton? I have been messing with it for far too long now. I have two MIDI cables set up running from the 909 In/Out straight to my interface. I open up an external instrument in ableton and choose the designated channels. I use my push as my main MIDI controller and when I press the correct range of keys I DO HEAR THE 909 sounds but the pads do not light up. I believe I have a V1 chip installed in the 909 and the mode set on MIDI. I also have deactivated the sync mode in Ableton's preferences....
