Are there any common ways of setting up a live beat set?
Are there any common ways of setting up a live beat set?
I make beats and music that are influenced by beats. I have my first show coming up soon and would like to know if there are any common ways of setting up for using Live and an MPD (I have an MPD26). I've seen this set up a lot, and I'm sure people are doing it differently. I'm just curious if anyone who's done it wouldn't mind giving a brief explanation on how they set up. I got some feedback before from someone that exports all their tracks (more of a DJ set) - but I find that kinda boring and the only way to stay busy is to just add effects, and that becomes too much.
I've been looking around for months and can't really find much. If anyone has any idea how Nosaj Thing sets up, in this video he seems to be constantly busy doing stuff and this is what I would like to do:

Thanks in advance!

there is a video where BATHS explains it pretty well.

jeeze, I'm not on my computer, but YouTube search "BATHS HOW TO"
it's basically midi mapping your controller pads to launch clips or scenes and//or turn effects racks on/off
using faders/knobs to change effects parameters and volume control.

well BATHS gives you a good starting point. an idea of what all those dudes are doing.

Thank you. I'll check this out! I'm honestly not sure why so many beat producers choose an MPD for their live shows instead of an APC, which seems more suitable for launching clips in ableton, along with the faders/knobs. I have an MPD which is useful for producing (slicing/playing samples and drums), but even people who definitely have more than enough money for gear are still using them for shows.

I think its because it "looks" cooler....
haha
nah I think it's because the MPD is so versatile!

maybe a little bit of both.

I get it... the only thing I'm having trouble with is transitioning songs now

MPD is great for triggering loops and effects.
I would seriously recommend setting it up with SelectedTrackControl (Google it) which gives you loads of dedicated control over how it interacts with Live.
Good Luck!
