Can't access all my vsts on live 9!!
Can't access all my vsts on live 9!!
Hi, I was wondering if you could throw any light on an issue I'm having with your VST's not showing up in Ableton. I still have Live 8 installed and some VST's I can only access from live 8 and the rest of them only seem to appear on Live 9. Im using a 2009 samsung 64 bit laptop with pretty good specs. I have the same folder (program files/vstplugings) for all my plug-ins like your supposed to, and I'm pretty certain I've installed the 64 bit versions of the plug-ins if available. Maybe its an issue that arises when you have Live 8 and 9 on the same computer but I dont want to go and uninstall live 8, find out that i haven't fixed the issue and not be able to source an installer for live 8 again.

It'll probably work if you install the 32 bit version.

Is it the case that only 32 bit versions show up in live 8? And only live 9 is 64 bit compatible?yur2die4 wrote:It'll probably work if you install the 32 bit version.

yes
Re: Can't access all my vsts on live 9!!
If vsts are 32 bit, they will only be in a 32 bit version of the software. If they are 64 bit plugs, they will only show up in the 64 bit version. This applies to both Live 8 and 9. Both Live 8 and 9 open the same vsts.

Live 8 and 9 have 32bit and 64bit versions. You have to run one or the other you can't have it run in 32bit and 64bit.
If your DAW is 64bit and the missing VSTs are 32bit then you need Jbridge but it might not work for some plugins.
Hold alt while clicking the rescan button and it will force a full rescan but it will never find 32bit plugins in 64bit Live.

That might be true for Windows, but in OSX AU/VST's that are 64 bit work just fine in 32 bit DAWs, just not the other way around.yur2die4 wrote:If vsts are 32 bit, they will only be in a 32 bit version of the software. If I have 32 bit installed on my 64 bit system, Live crashes instantly. I dont even have a choice to keep 32 bit vst anywhere on my computer.
Re: Can't access all my vsts on live 9!!
Try jbridge it should fix most of 32bit plugins. Live 32bit will crash every time a few sampled instruments take up 3.2GB RAM
Live 64bit fixes the RAM limit and allows upto 32GB RAM for the latest i7 CPUs. 16GB for the older ones.

Re: Can't access all my vsts on live 9!!
Here's how I solved my vst issues.
I simply moved (do a copy first) the whole vst folder out of Program Files and into a non-OS folder. In my case I put it into my data drive. So, out of C: and into D: Then go into Live's preferences and point to the new vst folder location.
Hope this helps.

For myself. I don't move my vst files. Some of them reference other files.
What I do instead is, after I install setting new, I make a shortcut to it. And those shortcuts are all in a folder of vsts.
Lastly, in that folder I make a specific Ableton vst folder.
Then I have one folder with All, and I have a folder with only what works.
It is a good thing that Live recognizes shortcuts to vsts
