How to make the Preamp ART Tube work on Ableton 8/WIndows 8?

Post by enphydolphographist » Sat Feb 22, 2014 11:59 pm

Hi,

I have severe stressful problems ( ) with getting my preamp interact with my Ableton. Once again weekend without any recording due to this :-(

Device: ASUS Laptop with Ableton 8 and ASIO soundcard. Problem: Plugging it to an ART Tube Studio V3 Preamp

This preamp worked very fine before on my Macbook that crashed. Now on this new laptop it doesn't get identified and I don't know what to do about it. I don't remember how I made it work back then. I didn't find a driver-CD or anything like that. I didn't find anything on the net as driver. I was going through several tutorials and guidance papers about usual set up of preamps/interfaces to get going but nothing worked.

I hope for some advice :)
General questions that popped up: Should Ableton identify it just by being plugged in to an audio input at the laptop? How can I build up plugging that Ableton finally realizes that there is an ART Tube STudio V3? Has it something to do with Windows 8?

There isn't any, it's a one channel preamp, not an interface. Full stop.

The analog output goes into a line level input on your
ASIO soundcard
, nothing extra for Live to recognize or identify. You have x analog inputs on your soundcard, the one you plug the ART into is the one you want to use for recording. You can not use it to gain an extra input.

... have you created an aggregate device of your external and the Macbooks internal soundcard? There is no such thing in Windows, and even under OS X you'd have to pay the price of the slower interface dictating latency.
