A feature that I've tried unsuccessfully to create in Ableton is the ability for program changes on a specific MIDI channel to send to Audio Effects racks in addition to the soft synths. Ultimately I want my program change messages control the chain selection of a rack.
Here's an example of how I would apply it. When I perform live I remotely send a program change message to my soft synth (Let's say Massive in this case) to scroll through the presets. Each preset has a radically different sound and I would like to be able to simultaneously cue up patch-specific EQ settings, distortion, etc that live on different chains. As it is I am unable to apply outside VSTs to my various synth patches without having to accept that they will always be on our manually toggling the chain select to match the value of my last program change message.

Do you have Max4Live? I was able to route MIDI PC to an AUDIO track, but that isn't even really necessary as an M4L mapping device can sit on your MIDI track and control the Audio Effect Chain Selector. You just need something that converts PC inputs into Chain Selector values. Are you able to correlate those easily? PC 1 = CS 1, PC 2 = CS 2 would be the easiest to implement. If you wanted MIDI PC from multiple MIDI track sources that would be possible too, a little different approach but still possible.

Here you go. Instantiate this device on your MIDI track, click the map button and then click the chain select header on the appropriate Audio Effect Rack. PC 0 does not work, just 1-127.

Re: Program Change Messages For Effect Racks
I'm trying to send program changes from another midi track to the instrument rack and using your max4live plugin, but it's not making any changes. I can see the midi is getting routed to the correct track. I added a clip in the from midi track and configured it to send a program 1 change message to the instrument rack. Any ideas?
