Will Ableton announce anything on March 26th

Post by Sean_Clarke » Mon Mar 24, 2014 7:06 am

Do you think ableton will announce anything on Bitwigs big launch day to crash the party? It would be a perfectly legitimate marketing tactic to roadmap or announce new features or free stuff.

I don't think so. - If they should have decided to take this route, an announcement before the release date of BW Studio would work much better in my eyes. But lets wait and see.

Tom, you're right. - It seems I read the OPs questions in different way. As you, I don't think Ableton wants to crash Bitwigs party or the other way around.

For my part I interpreted the question in the meaning, that he would like to see some of the Bitwig features in Live as well and that he's hoping for an announcement that will assure those features coming up soon (and proving him that thoughts of taking the Bitwig boat are no longer necessary). ;)

If we would like to gossip, we could have a look of the different ways both companies handle announcements generally. :D ... but that would be OT here.

(Btw, Tom, thanks for your really handy alternative Push parameter layouts! I was hardly using the Suite instruments in the past (with an now sold Zero SL controller) because of the totally weird default paramter layouts and I think this will change now.)

They'll announce that Bitwig was just their big April's fool prank on us, that Bitwig never existed and will never exist and that they still are lying on the floor dying of laughing because we are so stupid.

I truly believe that.

Why would Ableton want to legitimize a competing application? Best thing to do would be to ignore it... for now.

Competition makes the world go round, if and when Bitwig turns out to be "all of that" hopefully Ableton can keep up with the new "It Factor".

not fixing the PDC issue when people have been asking for it for years will be Ableton's biggest ever mistake.

Just to clarify (as the OP) I don't really care if the Abes and Wigs are friends or not, but I hope the introduction of what looks to be a possible alternative to Live (we will all be able to demo and find out this week....) will inspire Ableton to roadmap out the future direction....

It will be interesting also to se if the Wigs offer any cross grade options from live or live intro.

I am long term suite user and I like MAX and don't envisage changing, but there are some great ideas in Bitwig, they have obviously copied live in some areas, so I hope the Abes aren't to proud to copy them back!

I doubt it but you never know. That said Ableton is most likely cooking up a new version which answers some of Bitwigs features, while working on some new ideas.

I'm sure Ableton knows its weak areas compared to Bitwig by now but it also know its strong areas over Bitwig as well probably more so than us being that it isn't released yet to the public.

My guess is probably no. Wait a few months while the hype wears down then make a leak. A leak made now might not be that impactful with the Bitwig promotion being at a high point during release time.

I'm sure Ableton 10 will be interesting

I love these threads!

I think it would be awesome if live announced something big.

Bitwig has the advantage of starting from nothing.

That means they don't have to support files from older versions, they don't have to deal with features people have come to take for granted suddenly disappearing, they can write the software flexibly with less intrusion from other ideas within the program.

Live is great and I don't see myself switching anytime soon only for the reason of convenience. But sometimes it feels any room for advancement in features has to be handily inserted onto a wobbly pile with tape and glue.
