Pitch Bend - Don't understand.

Post by Alexlg0520 » Wed Mar 26, 2014 9:19 pm

Hello everyone :D.

Does anyone know what the numbers on the pitch bend parameter in ableton is?

Clip View - Midi Ctrl - Pitch bend - (1-8191)

I just did the math and divided 8191 by 12 to get the value of each note (assuming i have my synthesizer set to +/- 12), but It'd be nice to know what the numbers stand for to have some general knowledge.

Thanks in advance!

Start with 1, multiply by 2, multiply that by 2, multiply that by 2, etc. You will see very common numbers. Ones relating to bit depth, popular amounts of ram, or available colors etc. Standard midi uses a depth of 128, but pitchbend has a finer resolution. This makes for smoother and more sensitive settings.

If you want to go to specific pitches, you'll probably have to 'tune' a pitch to a sine tone that is already playing. Then take note of the number for future reference.
