How to tune drums?
Say I load an 808 kick into a drum rack. How would you transpose it to a certain key? For example, B.

Simpler has a transpose slider.reynolds101 wrote:Say I load an 808 kick into a drum rack. How would you transpose it to a certain key? For example, B.
Use that to tune drum.
Alternatively I usually load my booms in a simpler outside a drum rack so I can tune by playing it in via midi keyboard like a synth. I usually use a synth for my booms anyways.

A good strategy is to pitch the sample up 24 or 36 semitones. You should be able to hear the basic 'pitch' of the kick fairly clearly. Tune to taste, and then transpose down again by 24 or 36.

It also helps to visualize the peak amplitude frequencies in the signal - Live's Spectrum device's scale can be set to show musical intervals instead of numeric frequencies.
